Copyright guidelines

It is your responsibility to ensure all content respects copyright.

You may include quotes and images from other resources if they add value, but you must follow the guidelines below.

Quoting from other resources

When quoting from websites or publications:

  • Enclose quotes in quotation marks
  • Keep the exact wording
  • Link to the source
  • Credit the author (if known) and resource
  • Provide full citations for publications

Do not copy text and modify it slightly. If not quoting directly, express the concept entirely in your own words. Avoid long quotations.

Images

Most images on the web are copyrighted, including those on social media. Before using any image:

  1. Obtain permission (ideally in writing) from the copyright owner
  2. When in doubt, assume you don’t have permission and contact the owner

Specific image types

Creative Commons images: You must attribute the creator according to the license terms. See Creative Commons licenses.

Stock/royalty-free images: Check the license to confirm use on this website is permitted.

Institutional images: Verify with your institution that you can use them on ELIXIR Training SPLASH.

Your own images: Follow our style guide. Images may be modified to match site style. All site content is published under CC BY 4.0.
